Metzeler British Superstock 1000 Championship leader Jon Kirkham (JK Racing / Clarks BMW) completed another successful weekends racing, finishing an on form second place, in the Superstock 1000 race at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire on bank holiday Monday.
Increasing his lead to 65 points over second place Tristan Palmer (Jentin BMW Motorrad), Kirkham was in title winning form and demonstrated cool and maturity to ride within himself to finish a close second to Richard Cooper (Jentin BMW Motorrad) at the twisty Cadwell Park track.
Jon said "Another awsome result for our little team! The weekend started wet and was so windy our awning blew away! It was cold, so we had a lot to do with the chassis set up, but in Sunday warm up I had a really good feeling for the bike, so knew we could run championship form. I had a good start in the race, but the Jentin Motorrad BMW of Richard Cooper was a rocket on the straights, so I let him go and thought about the title. Towards the end I started to catch him but the race was shortened to 14 laps due to earlier rain. Second is cool for me, more points, and only three rounds to go, taking the title is now on, although I will leave the maths to others to sort out as I am hungry for more podiums."
The cooler track temperatures meant some grip problems arose, but Kirkham rode around this to build up a significant championship points lead of 65 points from Tristan Palmer in second place.
Jon added "It was still cold, with rain in the air, so the track was a bit slippy, but I found grip where I needed it and rode the best I could for the conditions, good result! I must thank everyone who has got behind me recently and made a difference with their support, both in the crowd and the paddock. We do what we can, with a small budget and really have made a great effort this year, which I would like to think could lead into me running something in superbikes possibly next season."
Jon Kirkham (JKRacing / Clarks BMW) now leads the Metzeler British Superstock 1000 Championship by 65 points, with three rounds remaining.
